On Wednesday, February 26, 11 students in the Gettys Middle School History Club, representing each grade level, spent time after school picking up trash around campus.
Club sponsors are Julie Bishop and Tyreik James.
The History Club meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month and is dedicated to learning about local history and government in the Easley and Upstate area. The club also dedicates time to beautify the school campus by picking up trash. The club takes 1 field trip a year related to our mission to learn more about our community.
We have welcomed notable speakers from the community such as Pickens County Council Chairman Chris Bowers, State Representative Neal Collins, School Board Member Betty Garrison, and Clemson University Historian Dr. Otis Pickett. Recent field trips have been to the John C. Calhoun home at Clemson University and the Easley Area Museum.
During the 2023-2024 school year, our club worked closely with the Easley Area Museum to research the historical impact of the textile industry on our local community contributing to the museum's textile industry exhibit.
