1st day

Dear Gettys Middle School Families,

We are excited to welcome our students back for the first day of school on Thursday, August 1st! To ensure a smooth and safe start to the school day, we would like to remind everyone of the morning drop-off procedures and additional important information.

Morning Drop-Off Procedures:
Student arrival begins at 7:45 a.m. in the carline. For a more efficient drop-off, we ask that parents use both lanes throughout the car line until they reach the gymnasium. At that point, please merge into one lane using the zipper method. Remember to pull up as far as possible in the car line before letting your child out, and ensure they exit the vehicle promptly when traffic is stopped. Staff will be visible in the car line to welcome students and direct them to the cafeteria or gym.

First Day of School Details:
Students will receive a copy of their schedule in their first period classes. If students are unsure of their first period class, we will have administrators and other staff ready to assist and direct them. Breakfast will be served from 7:45-8:05 in the cafeteria for any student who would like to have breakfast. Students arriving before 8:05 should report to the gym to wait to be dismissed to class or to the cafeteria if they need breakfast. After 8:10, students who need breakfast can get it from the cafeteria and take it to their first period class. All 8th grade students will remain in the gym until 8:25 when they will be dismissed to their first-period class.

Chromebook Information:

All students should receive their Chromebook in their first core class period tomorrow. Students who have just enrolled at Gettys may have a slight delay in getting their Chromebook as we wait on them to be delivered to the school. Any returning 7th or 8th grade student who did not return their charger last year, will need to pay the $32 dollar replacement fee before receiving a new charger. Also, if you have not done so yet, please pay the $25 technology fee through MySchoolBucks. If you are not able to pay this fee, please contact me at Jacobnelson1@pickens.k12.sc.us.

Dismissal Procedures:
Dismissal will begin at 3:20. Car riders will be directed to sit in their grade-level designated area and should listen for their names when their car arrives. 6th grade bus riders will wait in the cafeteria until their bus arrives, and 7th and 8th grade bus riders will wait in the gym until their bus arrives.

We appreciate your cooperation and patience during the first few days as our students acclimate themselves with the morning drop-off and dismissal procedures. Teachers will review important information throughout the school day to help prepare students for class transitions, lunch procedures, and dismissal information.

Thank you for your continued support as we kick off a fantastic school year at Gettys Middle School!

Sincerely,

Jacob Nelson
