You will get lost, it’s ok.
Ask for help.
Join school activities. Be the kind of person that makes things happen.
Give yourself time to rest.
Make a schedule.
Don’t stress too much.
Don’t be afraid to speak up.
Be involved!
Ask questions.
There are so many places to use whatever skills you bring to the table. Sports are not the only place to plug in.
Make your own decisions.
Turn in your classwork on time. It helps build a solid relationship with teachers.
Be kind!!
Make time in your schedule for classes you WANT to take.
GPA – it is important (but not everything).
Be yourself to make the next four years a blast.
Give classes a fair chance. You may discover that you like a class more than you thought you would.
Take fine arts classes (they are really fun and you meet cool people).
Be prepared for the steps (they can be brutal).
Bathrooms on the fine arts wing are often out of toilet paper.
Enjoy school events to the max.
Be kind and grateful to all staff (consider especially the lunch ladies and custodians).
Don’t be judgy.
Put thought to the future but not stress.
Be kind (yes, again), even to people that are not kind to you.
Organization is an important skill.
Don’t be afraid of a challenge. No matter the outcome, you can learn and grow.
Never change to fit in.
Know what classes you need to take. Own your school career.
You will be asked to do a lot of things that are more important than you think.
Don’t slack off.
It’s ok to be nervous to ask a question. It’s not ok to not ask.
Treat others the way you want to be treated.
Do new things.
Enjoy being different and living out your specific purpose.
Consider three things when deciding on classes: if you’ll enjoy it, if you can handle the workload, if it is required.
If you need to use the restroom, get in and get out. You DO NOT want to play around in there.
Bring a change of clothes for PE.
Study halls are great. Use them wisely.
Find a good seat at lunch early on. Those seats tend to stick throughout the semester.
The Library is a great place.
Class change can be overwhelming. Just go with the flow and don’t stand around.
Work on homework each night. Procrastination feels good, but in the end it only makes you feel more overwhelmed.
Don’t sprint to lunch. You will be laughed at.
AP classes are great. Also remember high school is meant to be fun. Give yourself a manageable load.
Push through the hard classes. It’s ok to struggle.
A lot of things change throughout high school.
Stay awake in class.
Work hard to exempt final exams.
Grades are important, and so are sleep, health, and happiness.
Make friends. People will not think it’s weird for you to want to get to know them.
Interested people are interesting people.
Use the back stairwells whenever possible (they don’t go to the first floor).
First impressions with teachers count a lot.
Make friends wisely.
Invest in the community outside the school.
Get good sleep.
5 minutes between classes is enough time to get water and use the restroom.
It’s never too late to change.
Talk to older students.
Teachers want to work with you. Build a good relationship with them.
Have school spirit. It’s fun to dress up for games, spirit week, etc.
