DMS Principal

The School District of Pickens County is pleased to announce that Ms. Mary Cate Garrett has been approved by the Board of Trustees as the next principal of Dacusville Middle School, effective July 1, 2025. This decision follows the transition of Mr. Nate Roper to his new role as principal of Gettys Middle School, which was approved in February. Mr. Roper will continue leading Dacusville Middle through the remainder of the 2024-25 school year to ensure a smooth transition for students and staff.

Ms. Garrett is a product of the School District of Pickens County, having attended D.W. Daniel High School before pursuing her career in education. She currently serves as an assistant principal at R.C. Edwards Middle School, where she has played a key role in academic intervention, student engagement, and school operations. She has been a leader in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), master scheduling, and professional development. In addition to her administrative experience, she previously served as a physical education and health teacher, athletic director, and student program coordinator at RC Edwards.

Ms. Garrett holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Southern Wesleyan University, a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University, and is currently completing her Education Specialist (EdS) degree in Educational Leadership at Clemson University, with expected completion in May 2025. She is a member of South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA), a SCNSPRA award-winning communicator, and has extensive experience in student leadership initiatives.

"We are excited to welcome Ms. Mary Cate Garrett as the next principal of Dacusville Middle School," said Superintendent Danny Merck. "She has a deep connection to our district, a passion for student success, and a track record of strong leadership at the middle school level. We are confident that she will continue to build upon the great work happening at Dacusville Middle and help our students thrive."

"Stepping into the role of principal at Dacusville Middle School is both an honor and a privilege,” said Ms. Garrett. “ I am excited to work alongside the dedicated faculty and staff, supportive families, and incredible students to continue a culture of excellence. We will build on the school and Dacusville community’s strong foundation and continue creating an environment where every student feels valued, challenged, and inspired to reach their full potential."

Ms. Garrett is eager to step into this leadership role and serve the students, staff, and families of Dacusville. She looks forward to collaborating with the community and continuing the school’s tradition of excellence.
