The 2025-2026 school year is scheduled to begin for students on August 1, 2025. The last day for students will be May 22, 2026.

The draft of the 2025-2026 school calendar was posted several years ago so employees and families could plan ahead. The district has now developed draft calendars through the 2029-2030 school year. They are posted on the district website for planning purposes but must be reviewed by the board each year before final approval and are subject to change.

While the ability to provide feedback began when the original draft was released, we requested focused feedback during September, October, and November of 2024. The feedback we received from parents, SDPC staff, and other stakeholders led to some modifications to the original draft. You can view a report of the feedback here.

Key Feedback:

  • 70% are satisfied or very satisfied with the Modified Year-Round approach

  • 85% prefer to start in early August rather than late August

  • 60% prefer to end PRIOR to Memorial Day weekend

This presentation contains lots of details regarding the constraints and complications when developing a future calendar. Please take a look to view feedback results and other information.

Key details of the 2025-2026 Calendar:

  • 8+ weeks of summer are provided for employees / 9.5 weeks for students (students have 69 days out)

  • Start date was shifted to August 1 to allow for the school year to end prior to Memorial Day (a common request in feedback).

  • October break shortened from 4 days to 2

  • Week off for Thanksgiving; 2 weeks/3 weekends off at Christmas & the New Year

  • Jan. 5 PD day

  • Feb. break was shifted to Feb. 13 and 16 (16th is PD day)

  • March break at the end of the 3rd Qtr (16th is PD day)

  • Easter is earlier in 2026, returning our spring break to Good Friday through the week after Easter

  • April 3 – 10 is Spring Break

  • Last day for students is May 22; Graduation on May 23

Beginning school early in August allows our schools to complete the first semester before Christmas break. We believe this arrangement has academic benefits, especially for our high school students taking virtual and dual-credit courses. The earlier start also gives us the flexibility to schedule breaks throughout the school year for the wellness and mental health of students and staff. The total number of school days for students (180) and contract days for teachers (190) remain the same as before.

eLearning Days for Inclement Weather

  • SDPC is an SCDE approved eLearning district. This allows us to use up to five(5) days of eLearning. These days are for emergencies such as inclement weather, utility interruptions, etc. These days are NOT planned days on the calendar. Students have five (5) days from the eLearning day to complete their assignments. When students complete their assignments, they are counted as present for the day(s) missed.

  • Inclement Weather / Closure Make Up - If eLearning is not possible or we have used all 5 allowed days of eLearning, a closure may be necessary. Days missed due to the closure of schools will be made up on the next available make-up days on the calendar. These days are February 13, April 3, and April 10 of 2026.

SDPC will continue posting future draft calendars on our website to assist families with planning vacations and other life events. These drafts are subject to change based on feedback, but our goal is to ensure that key holidays and return dates remain stable.

Thank you for your feedback and assistance in developing our 2025-26 calendar!
