The South Carolina Department of Education has released the 2023-2024 School Report Cards today, revealing positive progress in schools across the state, including those in the School District of Pickens County (SDPC). The South Carolina Report Card measures the progress of schools toward the goals of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. These Report Cards, available at www.screportcards.com, reflect student performance, teacher qualifications, school climate, graduation rates, and overall academic success for the previous school year.
The School Report Cards, which are based on South Carolina’s education accountability system, are required for all elementary, middle, and high schools that receive overall ratings based on a 100-point scale. The report card assigns ratings of Excellent, Good, Average, Below Average, and Unsatisfactory. For the 2023-24 school year, all SDPC schools once again received ratings of “Average” or better.
This year, of the 22 SDPC schools measured, five SDPC schools were rated Excellent, eight schools were rated Good, and nine schools were rated Average. No schools in the district received a Below Average or Unsatisfactory rating, continuing the district's trend of strong performance.
An Excellent rating is defined as school performance that substantially exceeds the criteria to ensure all students meet the Profile of a South Carolina Graduate. District schools at the elementary level that received this rating are Ambler Elementary, Central Academy Of The Arts, Clemson Elementary, and Six Mile. D.W. Daniel High School also received this top rating.
A Good rating is defined as school performance that exceeds the criteria to ensure all students meet the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. District schools that received this rating are Pickens High, Dacusville Middle, Pickens Middle, R.C. Edwards Middle, Dacusville Elementary, Hagood Elementary, McKissick Academy Of Science And Technology, and Pickens Elementary.
No SDPC schools were rated below the Average rating for the seventh consecutive year.
Here are some other highlights from this year’s report cards :
The on-time graduation rate for SDPC rose to 87.5% in 2024, compared to 84.5% in 2023. This is the 2nd highest graduation rate the district has recorded since the current accountability system was put into place.
This year, Clemson Elementary is ranked in the top ten elementary schools in the state with their overall report card score.
Ambler Elementary, Clemson Elementary, Pickens Middle, and Pickens High all increased a level in the ratings this year.
“We are proud to see our schools' continuous progress reflected in this year's report cards,” said Dr. Danny Merck, SDPC Superintendent. “Our commitment to long-term academic success is evident in the dedication of our staff, students, and families. While we celebrate these successes, we also remain focused on areas where we can improve to ensure all students in Pickens County meet the Profile of a South Carolina Graduate. We continue to be committed to a teachable attitude and continuous improvement through teamwork, no matter what.”
