Cosmetology
Course Sequence
A separate application is required which will be scored by a team to determine a student’s admittance into the program.
Student hours are collected using biometrics and submitted to the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation (LLR).
The South Carolina Board of Cosmetology requires students to complete 500 hours during levels 1 & 2 and an additional 500 hours during levels 3 & 4, for a total of 1,000 hours in the program. Failure to meet the hours requirement will result in being dropped from the course and/or not being allowed to sit for the South Carolina Board of Cosmetology License. LLR does not recognize excused absences as a valid reason to waive hours, these include medical, school, field trip, or parent excuses.

Cosmetology 1 & 2
4-units
11th grade only
This course is an introduction to the broad field of cosmetology. It prepares students for further training in the field. Students will receive training in the care and beautification of the hair, skin and nails. Chemical services such as hair coloring, chemical relaxing, and permanent waving will be introduced. Care of the hair will include scalp treatments, hair shaping, and hair styling. Care of the skin will include facials, massage, and make-up application. Care of the nails will include manicures and pedicures. Students have the opportunity to participate in leadership activities by joining the SkillsUSA organization.
Cosmetology 3 & 4
4-units
12th grade only
The student will continue to practice all phases of care and beautification of hair, skin, and nails. Further study in the techniques of permanent waving and hair color will be introduced. Students have the opportunity to participate in leadership activities by joining the SkillsUSA organization.
Upon completion of all four levels and 1,000 hours logged, students will be permitted to sit for the South Carolina Board of Cosmetology License.
