"GP2W" stands for Great Place To Work. The four characters serve as a reminder in communication among our staff of the culture of our district. Each week through the school year, our website will feature an article on one of our schools, departments, or people explaining how they make SDPC a Great Place To Work!

Liberty Middle School is a building filled with energy, excitement, and excellent employees. As we open the building each morning, our teachers and support staff are working together to provide quality education, relationships, and great food to our students.
This dedication and commitment shows in the examples of our Teacher of the Year and Support Employee of the Year.
Our 2014-2015 Teacher of the Year is Mary Helen Oliver. Mrs. Oliver currently teaches 6th-grade math and social studies, but she has taught many different subjects over the course of her 15 years here at LMS. Mrs. Oliver has always loved working with children, and believes that all students can learn. In addition to her contributions in the classroom, Mrs. Oliver has also served LMS in other areas: as Grade Level Coordinator, Yearbook Sponsor, Volleyball Coach, Assistant Volleyball Coach, Beta Club Sponsor, and LMS representative for March of Dimes and United Way. Mrs. Oliver also serves as a caring mentor to new math and science teachers. Mrs. Oliver's coworkers point out that she is dedicated, organized and always "on the ball." According to fellow teacher Karen Metcalf, "It's like there are 4 or 5 of her!"
Mrs. Oliver's students also benefit from her dedication to LMS. Cassie, an 8th-grade student, is thankful to Mrs. Oliver for teaching study skills. Jena, another 8th-grade student at LMS, says that Mrs. Oliver did a great job of teaching stem words, and that she has used what she learned in many of her classes this year.
Our 2014-2015 Support Employee of the Year is Cafeteria Manager Jennifer Cournoyer. Mrs. Cournoyer has been employed at LMS for seven years. Mrs. Cournoyer has created a warm, inviting cafeteria where her bright smile welcomes teachers and students alike. Colorful decorations catch the eye, and her dedication to service is evident in all that Mrs. Cournoyer does. From providing a wonderful teacher menu to preparing delicious salads, Mrs. Cournoyer goes above and beyond in serving the teachers here at LMS. She will stop whatever she is doing to grab extra crackers or add a little something to your sandwich.
LMS students appreciate Mrs. Cournoyer as well. According to one 7th-grade student, Mrs. Cournoyer is a hard worker and always busy. Another 7th-grade student says she makes the best mashed potatoes!
Here at Liberty Middle School, our mission is to educate our students in a safe, academically challenging environment. Our faculty and staff work each day toward this goal, and that is what makes LMS a Great Place to Work.
