Gaston Named Adult Education Director of the Year
Posted on 02/28/2017
Dr. Mary Gaston, who head SDPC's Adult Learning Center, was named the Director of the Year by the South Carolina Association of Adult Education Directors on February 17 at the group's annual meeting in Columbia.
On February 27, the SDPC school board recognized Dr. Gaston for her achievement as well. Dr. Gaston has served with distinction as our Adult Education Director since 2001, before which she was a teacher in Pickens County. She has had a profound impact on members of our community who need to return to receive an education later in life. In recent years, the Adult Learning Center has also had a significant impact on our graduation rate, by working with students to overcome obstacles to graduating on time. The people who nominated Dr. Gaston for the award took note of her love for students, her leadership among her colleagues, her impact on Adult Education across the state--not just in Pickens County, and her vision for bringing GED programs in line with modern technology.
This honor is hard-earned and well-deserved!
